Official correction: The City of Charlottesville is eligible for an administrative fee but passes this on to BRACH and the Haven. I originally reported this incorrectly but corrected the error on September 15, 2024.
A land bank is an entity that would buy property on behalf for a public purpose. The Housing Advisory Committee has been reviewing an ordinance to create one and there has been some division. Representatives of the Charlottesville Redevelopment Housing Authority argued they should be that entity as they're already purchasing property for the purpose of providing housing. Others on the committee feel it should be a new entity.
I wrote a long preview of their most recent meeting:
I went to Virginia Tech, a land grant college. I've lost the finer points of exactly what that meant, but if I ever go back to Champaign-Urbana, I want to look into the history of the University of Illinois as a land grant college!

What is a land grant and how would creating one help our local homeless population?
Thanks for all your work and the information you provide for the community.
