The Food Equity Initiative is a non-profit seeking to become a permanent line item in the City budget. However, it is not proposing to be accountable to the City or its tax payers. It was situations such as this that gave rise to the Agency Budget Review Team that provided annual accountability. This agency should be brought under that annual process if it is to remain an entity separate from the governance of the City or become a part of the City government as a branch of the Human Services Department.. To do otherwise sends a message of favoritism.
