This post originally went out saying the next two meetings for Council were in August, not April. They're coming up on April 21 and April 24, not August. I regret the error.
Your work is essential for the citizens of Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you cover. How else would we be able to know all of the details you share and dig up? An informed citizenry is the only way for us to look at our Government and make sure that it is doing what we expect of them. Our votes will keep them honest and working for the betterment of the community. You help us know how to do so intelligently. Thank you for your work.
I increasingly think there are a lot of powers in this country who have no interest in an informed citizenry. What keeps coming back to me today is the memory of seven years ago when Charlottesville Tomorrow was steered away from the kind of work the organization had been doing.
I can't comment further publicly, but the reason I work so hard is because I believe fully I was silenced back then because I knew too much about a particular thing. I'm angry because I helped build up an organization and didn't realize how angry I'd made a board member.
I'm a dying breed and maybe there's yet time to go live my life. Or would I miss out on the stories yet to tell? The stories of a city that seems to think it can do everything.
